hi folks! phill here. im glad you chose to come and see my work! thank you. something must have clicked because now you seem somewhat interested in who i am, as opposed to just my pottery.
i grew up and still live in a southern suburb of the twin cities, minnesota. i went to bethel university and graduated with a b.a. in studio art, and off the record it could be said that i also received a pottery emphasis (indulgence). however, i wasn't always into art, nor pottery for that matter. instead i followed in my older brother's footsteps towards a biology something-or-other, not positive what i wanted with it all but still quite content. finally i learned that my brother and i are very different, and have different skills and likes and dislikes. i know this was and should have been obvious, but i guess i never really took time to learn about me. thus, i also received a biology minor, barely. i do enjoy biology, im just not that good at it nor did i want to head to med school. yikes.
after school ended i apprenticed with master potter steve rolf, who was kind enough to take me under his wing and teach me the potter's ways. this was a wonderful experience and has helped me in the most tremendous of ways. thanks steve. ps, steve and his wife are excellent cooks! mmmmm...
i recently became the luckiest guy on earth because i am engaged to an amazing and beautiful woman and will be getting married in the summer. my fiancee has been my biggest supporter in pottery and i can't thank her enough for it.
if i've kept your attention this long, i'll just give myself a pat on the back. im not much of a writer. thanks for getting to know me a little better. i hope sometime i will have the chance to return the curiosity. though, if i may say one more thing before you go. i really hope you fall in love with pottery as i have. use it, learn from it, and be enriched by it.
cordially, phill
